Though King George VI passed away on February 6, 1952, Queen Elizabeth's coronation did not happen until June 2, 1953. It's tradition to wait an appropriate amount of time to mourn the death of the previous monarch before holding festivities. That being said, Elizabeth had already been Queen for over a year at the time of her coronation. 

At the coronation, which took place at Westminster Abbey, Elizabeth took an oath and was anointed with holy oil.
