13. Fergie In Jean Paul Gaultier Couture, 2012
Fergie decided to wear couture to the 2012 Grammy Awards, where she had a writing credit on Song of the Year nominee "All of the Lights." The artist went with a neon orange Jean Paul Gaultier Couture lace gown for the evening, which gave the world a glimpse of her high waist underwear.

While the sheer gown left little to the imagination, it was actually one of the more modest options she had to choose from. "I just got it two weeks ago from Paris," she told reporters on the red carpet, sharing she had to pick between two gowns. "This was the more conservative one." It makes you wonder what the other one looked like.

While nowadays we see high waist underwear as cute, the bellybutton grazing panties created quite a stir on the red carpet in 2012. They were still too closely associated with Bridgette Jones. "Why the Granny pants?" one red carpet pundit asked.

But as The Hollywood Reporter pointed out, "But she would probably have gotten even more flack if she'd just worn a thong, right?" Girl can't win.

Jean Paul Gaultier styled the dress the same way on the runway as Fergie did on the red carpet, meaning he also chose to pair the gown with a black bra and panties. Though his brief selection rode lower on the hips. Either way, Fergie kept the outfit true to his vision.
