11. Cardi B In Vintage Mugler Couture, 2019
All together Cardi B wore four Mugler couture outfits at the 2019 Grammys, but this Aphrodite-stepping-out-of-a-shell number had to be her most daring one. Her stylist for the evening was Kollin Carter, and he cinched the archived Fall 1995 couture look months in advance. (What made the dress even more priceless was that it was originally shown on the 20th anniversary runway show of the French fashion house, making it part of a milestone collection.)

Both Cardi and Carter were invited to visit Mugler's archives in Paris, and they knew they had to wear the "Venus" dress as soon as they saw it. “There was one piece I was fighting for and harassing them about constantly, and it was the red-carpet dress,” Carter told WWD. “From the moment I saw it, I knew it was going to be a debatable moment, some people would love it and some people would hate it and that’s everything we’re about when it comes to fashion. It’s meant to create a conversation.”

The loan was the second time that Mugler opened his archives in 25 years to dress a celebrity. According to WWD, the first was to dress Beyonce in 2009. The honor of getting to wear an archived piece was made all the sweeter by Cardi's history-making win that night. She became the first woman ever to win the Grammy for Best Rap Album. The world was quite literally her oyster.
