31. Katy Perry In Balmain, 2019
Katy Perry is never one to make a quiet entrance on the red carpet, and her 2019 Grammy dress was no exception. The artist wore a pink cake-topper-like dress from Balmain's Spring 2019 Haute Couture collection. The show marked Olivier Rousteing's first couture line with Balmain, which he took over nearly nine years ago. For his first collection, Rousteing wanted to bridge the gap between the Paris label's archived pieces with its current sexy image.

“Of course, the house is known for being edgy and sexy and glamorous. Here, it’s all about bringing back Balmain to the elegance of la France,” he told Vogue. “Everything you see will give the sense that it’s taken from the ideas of Mr. Balmain.” That's where the tulle accents and sugary-pink hues come in.

The bulbous shape of the skirt and the frothy pink texture of the dress throw you back to a bygone era somewhere in the mid-century. Perry gave the whimsical dress a modern twist, though, by wearing mismatched earrings from Djula.

As you can imagine, such a bold look inspired a series of memes that night, but Perry wasn't offended. Instead she posted her favorite ones to her Instagram Story, one of which was an edit of her being a paint roller.
