Charlize Theron At The 2020 Critics' Choice Awards
Charlize Theron was nominated for several awards that night, including Best Actress for her portrayal of Megyn Kelly in Bombshell. To celebrate the evening, the actress donned a custom creation from Celine designed by Hedi Slimane, the artistic creator of the French fashion house. The silver striped dress was slinky and sexy, with its low cut neckline mirroring the daring thigh-high slit. But Theron subdued the sheath-like dress by pairing it with a boxy, masculine blazer. The actress usually dominates the awards circuit wearing Dior, who she is a long-standing brand ambassador of, so it was fun to see her switch it up a bit on the blue carpet.
Slimane became the new art director of Celine in 2018, and took the fashion house into new, uncharted territory. Celine was synonymous with timeless, elegant working women, but Slimane gave the label more of a "skinny, sexy, drug-chic" look and "seventies inspired bourgeois dressing," according to CR Fashion. You can see both influences in Theron's dress, which has an American Hustle vibe to it what with its liquid-like silhouette, disco-silver accents, and rocker-chic blazer.
While Theron always looks amazing in Dior, it's always a treat when she experiments with another designer and brings their vision to life on the red carpet.
