43. Natalie Portman At The 2020 Oscars
Natalie Portman's gold and black Dior dress may seem simple and elegant, but if you look closely, you'll notice a subtle callout to the lack of nominated female directors at the ceremony.

The actress' custom cape and gown featured embroidered names of the snubbed female directors along her lapels. "I wanted to recognize the women who were not recognized for their incredible work this year in my subtle way," Portman said on the red carpet.

The women featured were Lulu Wang (The Farewell), Greta Gerwig (Little Women), Lorene Scafaria (Hustlers), Melina Matsoukas (Atlantics), Marielle Heller (A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood), Mati Diop (Queen & Slim), Alma Har’el (Honeyboy), and Céline Sciamma (Portrait of a Lady On Fire).
