As a member of the Democratic Party, Abrams became the first Black female major-party gubernatorial nominee in the history of the U.S., but sadly, she was up against one hell of a corrupt asshole. Her opponent, Brian Kemp, has a long history of messing with voter rights and voter suppression. This was once again the case during the 2018 mid-terms where Kemp and his cronies did what they could to squash the voting rights of people in communities that were likely to vote for Abrams. Although she lost, narrowly, she promises to run again.
