A Breakdown Of The Royal Rumors Surrounding Prince William, Kate Middleton, And Rose Hanbury
Your cheatsheet to the latest rumored royal scandal.
Lately, it seems like the royal rumor mill has been working overtime churning out stories about royal family members and their inner circle. The previous attention-drawing rumors focused on an alleged feud between sister-in-laws Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle, and now Kate has found herself at the center of yet another rampant narrative — this time involving her friend Rose Hanbury and Prince William.
If you can't keep up with the ever-evolving gossip, we're here to break down the most significant tidbits of the latest royal rumor. But first, just a little disclaimer: While I tend to be a believer that rumors stem from some level of truth, you can't be ignorant to the fact that people can be cruel, words easily get misconstrued, and some rumors are straight-up false. Now that we have that covered, let's dive in.
Last week, The Sun published an article chronicling a rather intense falling out between Kate Middleton and friend, Norfolk neighbor, former model Rose Hanbury, the Marchioness of Cholmondeley. Hanbury is married to David Rocksavage, the Marquess of Cholmondeley, who is 23 years her senior. Side note — a marquess is a royal ranking below a duke and above an earl, in case you're wondering what the heck that word means. Apparently, Kate wants to cut ties to Hanbury and her husband, despite the fact they're in the same tight-knit, high society, Norfolk-based circle known as the "Turnip Toffs." A royal insider told The Sun "Kate has been clear that she doesn't want to see them any more and wants William to phase them out, despite their social status." That Kate Middleton sure is cutthroat — allegedly, that is.
All these rumors are well and good but they leave out a very crucial part — WHY? And that's where the next layer of rumors comes in, and they involve Kate's husband, Prince William.
Naturally, people are trying to put the pieces together as to what could spark such a sudden and fervent falling out, with reports now swirling that Kate caught wind of an affair between William and Rose. On March 26, Giles Coren, a British writer, posted a since-deleted tweet pointing to the scandal, "yes. it is an affair. i haven't read the piece but i know about the affair. everyone knows about the affair, darling." That being said, Coren is known to be pretty controversial and publicity-hungry, so he's not really a trustworthy source.
So, what do Will and Kate have to say about it? As we know, with matters like this, when speaking out publicly about rumors you're kind of damned if you do and damned it you don't. And yet, in an article written by Richard Kay for the Daily Mail, in addition to claiming the rumors are false, Kay states both sides have considered legal action but are going to do their best to ignore it all for now. You can take that as you choose.
We may never know the truth behind these rumors, and while we're suckers for a juicy scandal, we of course wish all parties well.
