"The perfect skirt must cover the knees." So went one of Coco Chanel's famously quoted style rules. Of course, the lower hemline was much more common in bygone eras before the rise of micro minis—a length we don't give a second thought to nowadays. In our redux-happy fashion generation (chokers, anyone?), it is no surprise that longer skirts are favored once more.
We've spotted celebrities donning midi or "tea-length" pencil skirts that go beyond the traditional knee-length cut, instead hitting the mid-calf. The look is demure but far from dowdy, thanks to smart styling tricks. The stars have been pairing the slimming silhouette with more revealing tops, usually cropped, for a flash of skin to balance more fabric on the bottom.
