We understand the look can be polarizing: sometimes, the style feels like the half-finished design of a rushed Project Runway contestant, and the peekaboo fabric feels like a showcase for knees. But we're inclined to think the trend—especially when stripped of its black-tie embellishments—is kind of perfect for warm spring and summer nights.

Case in point: even with an incandescent beaded top, Lily Aldridge's half-sheer Chanel gown maintains a sort of floaty, relaxed vibe.
