I Tried on an ASOS Wedding Dress So You Don't Have To

The good and the bulge.

I pride myself on finding beautiful things for bargain prices. So, when I got engaged, the first thing I did was dive into dress shopping. Naturally, I was excited last week when I stumbled across an article announcing a new bridal collection from ASOS. I always recommend ASOS for their petite finds at steal deals, but I was skeptical their gowns would live up to the quality a wedding dress requires.

Until I set my sights on this beauty:

So pretty, right? Perfect for the beachy/sexy/minimal vibe I was going for. And check out the back!

So with free shipping both ways (no matter what I'll always love you for this, ASOS!)—I ordered it immediately and eagerly tracked its arrival. I was convinced I found the one, and for a ridiculously small price in the world of wedding dresses.

Apparently I wasn't the only one who was intrigued, the dress sold out of every size within a week. But I have a feeling they'll be some returns...

It arrived, beautifully packaged, on a hanger inside a garment bag. I, of course, impatiently tore open the box like a little kid on Christmas Day. Once I wiggled into the strappy number, however, I became quickly disenchanted.

While the sizing was spot on, the dress somehow looked like a distant cousin to the elegant design I saw in the photos. The fabric, expectedly, was not luxurious, but it had a heavier weight to it than I feared. The greatest offense was actually the lumpiness of the seams. Yes, lumpy. In fact, they protruded in the worst possible places, creating ripples and even 2-3 inch bulges—primarily in the crotch region. Sexy, right?

I immediately texted my bestie iPhone pics and lol'd as I struggled to get out of the contraption. I have too much pride to publicly share the photos, but please trust that this dress will flatter no one. When I compared the photos for my fiancé he was confused as to how it was even the same dress.

Now, this isn't to say all of ASOS' bridal collection is a bust. I happen to think their lingerie is tres sexy and I'd be mighty tempted to try this look if I was on the hunt for an LWD:

But, as with all online shopping, their bridal game is a gamble. Fortunately, not a costly one.
