Here is another example of how the fashion industry fabricated things for women to worry about in order to sell products. In order to push Talon slide fasteners, the brand came up with a social faux pas called "gap-osis." Gap-osis was when a noticeable gap appeared between the fastened buttons or snaps on an overly tight garment.

"Lady, lady! It's not you but 'gap-osis' that keeps a man tongue-tied... dries up his compliments. Get rid of that untidy placket and get a Talon slide fastener — quick!" the ad read.
