2. Belladonna Eye Drops
Large, doe-like eyes have always been in fashion, and women have found inventive ways to achieve that look — but some were more dangerous than others.

Since the Renaissance period, women used Belladonna (which is another name for the poisonous plant nightshade) to dilate their pupils and make them appear watery. But overusing the eye drops could lead to blindness, comas, or delirium, making it a very dangerous beauty practice. The eye drops didn't fall out of favor until the 20th century... and then was replaced with other hazardous beauty practices (more on that in a minute).
