Vintage Women's Products We Can't Believe Were A Thing

7. Pregnancy Corsets
Women always got mixed signals about their bodies, and that extended to pregnancy. On the one hand, women were told their primary roles should be that of homemaker and a mother, but on the other hand, society was very uncomfortable with seeing pregnant women. It's why, despite having four children, Queen Elizabeth II never announced she was pregnant. Instead, Buckingham Palace released cryptic announcements, like, "Her Royal Highness the Princess Elizabeth will undertake no public engagements after the end of June."

Seeing a pregnant belly made people think of the bedroom, so women were encouraged to hide their "condition." That's why maternity corsets were pretty popular but no doubt unhealthy for the baby and mother.
