Vintage Women's Products We Can't Believe Were A Thing

Crinolines
Crinolines were a double edged sword for women. They were seen as revolutionary at the time because women could wear stylishly big skirts without as much fabric, making them lighter and easier to walk in. At the height of crinolines' popularity in the 1860s, 4,000 crinolines were produced a day in London, making them very high in demand. But they were also very deadly.
Because of their size, women who weren't watching where they were standing caught fire. Three hundred women died a year in England alone. And if they didn't catch fire, women who walked the cliffs on gusty days were carried off by the winds and pushed to their deaths in the sea.
