The truth is, I’m not a camper. While I love the outdoors—hiking, beach bonfires, stand-up paddle boarding—I haven’t actually slept in a tent since childhood. Still, when I heard about The Outpost's Joshua Tree retreat for brands, media and creatives, I was intrigued.
The desert destination was on my fiancé and my must-see list since moving to Southern California, so as the photographer of Livingly adventures he joined me to document the weekend. Here were the highlights of the getaway—and how even this non-camper had a wonderful time.
1. Trying Awesome Products in Real Time
Teva, of course, is a well-known label—in fact, Don and I had been eyeing their classic sandals for our upcoming trip to Bali. We had no idea, however, that they made hiking shoes until wearing a pair on the desert trail. We also happen to be longtime fans of Hydro Flask—they’re the reason I stay hydrated on the daily—and we were able to drink from their latest tumblers, filling them with tasty cocktails made by Bulleit whiskey. As a nutrition bar freak, I couldn’t have been more excited to stock up on the latest flavors Perfect Bar and 18 Rabbits had to offer. From the Barebones tents we slept in to the Organic Climbing chalk bags we bouldered with, it really was an immersive product sampling.
2. The Ultra Low-Maintenance Camping
No need to pitch a tent or pack the car with sleeping bags and bedding—even food was provided. No fuss, no worries. We just had to roll up in our sunnies and sun hats to soak in the experience.
3. An Action-Packed but Laid-Back Schedule
The itinerary was filled with activities like yoga, hiking, journaling, painting and even 3-wheels off-roading. There were so many ways to stay busy—all balanced by chill time in the form of live music, eating and drinking. Not to mention the fact you’re meeting and mingling with a community of friendly outdoor enthusiasts. The coolest networking we've ever done, that's for sure.
Needless to say, The Outpost was the perfect introduction to Joshua Tree. I highly recommend all adventurous souls and brands check out their upcoming events. It’s a nature party you’re going to want in on. Keep scrolling for some more snapshots.
