Exclusive Interview: Whitney Port, StyleBistro Celebrity Guest Editor
Whitney Port's career was launched as a cast-member of MTV's The Hills. Alongside Lauren Conrad, Whitney quickly became a reality star favorite. The City was Whitney's own spin-off that showcased her life working for Diane Von Furstenberg across the coast in NYC and eventually starting her own clothing line, Whitney Eve.
Now in the fourth season of her collection, this working girl is focused on fashion! StyleBistro had the delight of chatting with the ultra-sweet starlet about her favorite trends, the inspiration behind her designs and whose closet she'd love to raid!
SB: How would you describe your personal style?
I think that my personal style is pretty eclectic depending on my mood. I think when I was living in New York it was a bit more sophisticated and businesswoman-ish. Once I moved back to LA it became more easy going and comfortable. For the most part these days it's all about comfort. When I have to get dressed up I do, but I feel like a pretty good mix of New York and LA.
SB: What are your favorite pieces in your wardrobe?
I have a burberry leather jacket this my absolute love. I have a pair of Toga black ankle boots that I wear with everything and Genetic denim—just really comfortable slim jeans. I love all of my floral vintage dresses.
SB: Who are your favorite designers?
Classically I love Valentino, I think he'd be my all-time favorite designer. Right now I really love Isabel Marant, Alexander Wang, Phillip Lim and Rebecca Taylor. Those are a few of my faves right now.
SB: What styles are you most excited to wear this fall?
I'm loving that metallics are still in because I love anything that's shiny and glittery and beaded. I love long skirts and dresses, they're just so comfortable and just wearing them with a cute t-shirt or an oversized sweater is great. I love wedges because heels are so uncomfortable so the fact that we can still wear wedges and wedged booties.
SB: What is the inspiration behind Whitney Eve?
Every collection is totally different. This past one was a trip that I had taken to Liberia and it was based on what I saw there and the colors that all the women were wearing and all the vibrant prints they wore. Just their surroundings made me want to do something kind of earthy but also add that pop of contemporary culture out here.
SB: Tell us about your new lower-priced clothing line you'll be launching.
I don't have an official launch at this point, but for spring I'm going to be offering a portion of my collection that is just a big more affordable. We're calling it WE by Whitney Eve. It's cute day looks that can be dressed up for night and lots of different separates and sweaters—things I've never been able to do before. I'm excited to show it.
SB: If you could trade closets with any celebrity, who would you choose?
Right now I would say Beyonce. She has a great wardrobe and she always looks different. You think you get her style and the next day she's in something completely uncalled for. Granted I'm sure she has stylists, and I don't know if I could pull off everything, but I would definitely have fun looking.
SB: Where can we see you next?
Well at the moment I'm working on my spring collection, so I'll be out and about promoting that in September. I'm just trying to focus on that and be the best I can be with my clothing line at the moment.
