Why It Works: Miranda Kerr in Polka Dots and Knee-High Boots

Why It Works: Miranda Kerr in Polka Dots and Knee-High Boots Miranda Kerr (Bauer Griffin)

It may come as a surprise to some, but rocking a pair of angel wings while the male population’s eyes glaze over doesn’t always translate to street style. While Miranda Kerr took in the Chanel show at Paris fashion week, the Aussie Victoria’s Secret model and better half to Orlando Bloom—if you can choose a better half between those two—proved she is a master at both trades.

The Boots: Hands-down amazing in theory, over the knee boots can dip into Pretty Woman territory faster than you can say “Big Mistake. Big, Huge. I have to go shopping now.” But with the right legs (check) and the right outfit (more on this below) they are nothing short of jaw-dropping—treading the line between schoolgirl thigh-highs and dominatrix, for a casually chic-with-an-edge result.

The Shirt: The richness of this polka dot blouse swats away any notion that it might have been snapped up at Forever 21. It is a grown-up, monied, pick-up-the-tab-at Le Meurice polka dot, complete with a 2D blue-on-blue effect and an unabashedly prim collar.

The Coat: Both interrupting the polka dot effect with a balancing swathe of black, and complementing the pattern with three-quarter length sleeves, Kerr’s coat is what ties her entire outfit together. But the real coup de grace is the jacket’s length, a whisker shorter than the supermodel’s obligatory mini, it throws the attention back to how paradoxically super-crazy-sexy-short (yet still in good taste), it is.
